As families grow larger - especially in places such as Uganda - larger family cars are in demand.  One of the major dealerships in the country is consistently getting orders for Toyota Ipsums and Toyota Hilux Surf.  They are so popular in the country that even a used Toyota Ipsum does not sit on the car lot for very long.  Both of these vehicles are very user friendly and easy to drive, making them a convenient choice for large families.

The Toyota Ipsum itself comfortably seats seven people and it comes with a 2.0 and 2.4 liter gas engine as well as a 2.0 liter turbo diesel engine.  While people may think these multi-purpose vehicles are too large and hard to drive, they usually discover the opposite is true once they sit behind the wheel.  Comfortable and built with Toyota’s commitment to reliability, stability, and fuel efficiency, it is no wonder families are swooping these vehicles as fast as they can.

The Toyota Hilux - exported to the United States as the Toyota 4Runner - is actually considered an action utility vehicle or AUV.  While it is primarily a pickup truck, a family version of the Hilux comes equipped with an extended cab, allowing for a total of five passengers to travel comfortably in this vehicle.  So far the Hilux has gone through six generations of design and redesign and it is one of the few Toyotas that still have its core design intact.  To show just how sturdy these trucks are, the BBC took an old Hilux and beat the daylights out of it for the television show “Top Gear”.  Even after the truck was damaged beyond recognition it still functioned, and believe it or not, functioned well.

Many family oriented cars are designed with children in mind, especially for long road trips.  However, you need to make sure that the family car you choose is conducive to being able to get to your children if there is an accident as well as being able to get them in and out of the vehicle with a car seat.  You should literally test each car with a car seat to make sure it is going to work for you and your family.  Check out other things in the car for your family such as the amount of leg room in the back, whether or not the air conditioning is too much for them and if they can see out the window.  You would be surprised how much of a fit children will make when they cannot see out of the back.  Test out a few different cars to make sure you find the right one.  You will probably be driving it for a few years.
